Qld: Lighter winds expected to help firefighters in SE today

Firefighters in south-east Queensland expect lighter winds today will give them a chance
to extinguish smouldering bushfires.

A spokeswoman for Queensland Fire and Rescue Service says brigades have brought all
blazes under control overnight, including fires in the Samford Valley, north west of Brisbane,
and at Mango Hill, Bribie Island and Woodford, north of the city.

She says lighter winds will help prevent further flare-ups and aid backburning.

Meanwhile, firefighters are monitoring smouldering fires on the Gold Coast which was
blanketed in smoke early today.

The Fire and Rescue service says crews worked through the night to remove fire fuel
from behind homes in the Mudgeeraba and Bonogin areas.
